About Loch Morar
Loch Morar is a large wild Highland loch near Mallaig and the deepest freshwater body in Britain. Anglers can fish from the bank, launch their own suitable boat, hire a boat with an outboard or arrange guided fishing through the loch superintendent. The fishery holds wild brown trout and ferox trout, with salmon and sea trout entering the system during the season. Traditional drifting with fly tackle is available around shallower water, while deeper areas are used for trolling. Fishing runs from 15 March to 6 October and permits can be purchased locally or online. Catch limits and conservation rules apply, including the return of salmon and sea trout.
