About Castlewellan Lake
Castlewellan Lake in County Down is a 41.6-hectare public angling water in Castlewellan Forest Park, regularly stocked with brown and rainbow trout. The fishing season runs from 1 March to 31 October. From the shore, anglers may fly fish, spin or use worms; fishing from non-mechanical or electrically powered boats is permitted for fly fishing only. The daily bag limit is four trout per rod and the minimum takeable size is 25.4cm. A DAERA game rod licence and game angling permit are required, and park parking charges apply. Accessibility includes a tarmac car park, a quarry-dust path around the lake and wheelchair access to the water near the castle.
