Water of Leith

For river fishing within Edinburgh, the council offers a free permit for an approximately 12-mile stretch from Balerno towards Leith. Its published season runs from 1 April to 30 September; fishing for any species outside that season is prohibited. Some banks are private, and salmon, sea trout and eels must not be targeted. Read the permit and access rules before setting out.

Choosing a fishing spot near Edinburgh

For a bookable fishery with facilities, consider Clubbiedean. For a city river session, check the Water of Leith permit. For reservoir fly fishing, compare Harlaw's bank access with Glencorse's boat fishing. Threipmuir requires particular care with permits because fishing rights vary by shore. Seasons, availability and methods can change, so confirm the latest rules with each operator.
