About Pottishaw Fly Fishery

Pottishaw Fly Fishery is a fly-only trout water near Bathgate in West Lothian, established in 2004 and operated with an emphasis on quality fishing and low angling pressure. Attendance is limited to 16 rods per day, so visitors should contact the fishery before travelling. Rainbow, brown, blue and tiger trout are regularly stocked, while the water also supports coarse fish and a notable head of pike. The fishery is primarily catch and release, although one-fish and two-fish options are available for rainbow trout. Fly fishing for pike runs from August until March; deadbaiting and lure fishing are not permitted. Pottishaw recommends floating lines and smaller flies for much of the season, with intermediate lines and lure-style flies also useful in colder conditions. All fishing is by fly, leaders must be between 4lb and 10lb, and no more than three flies may be used on a cast. Brown trout, tiger trout and coarse species must be returned unharmed. Other rules include no dogs, rod sharing, alcohol or discarded leader line. Tea and coffee are available, and bookings or current information can be obtained from the fishery on 07535 003462.
