About Gunville Lake
Gunville Lake is a mature freshwater fishery close to Newport and is managed by the Isle of Wight Freshwater Angling Company. The lake covers approximately 2.5 acres within a larger natural site and reaches reported depths of around 15 to 18 feet. It offers a useful mixture of specimen and traditional coarse fishing, with the club listing carp to around 35lb, pike over 20lb, tench into the 6lb to 7lb range, roach and bream. Tree cover and established banks give the venue a quieter character despite its position near a built-up area. Gunville is primarily a club water, although authorised guest fishing may be arranged through an IWFAC member. Guest tickets must be requested in advance and the member must accompany the visitor. The lake permits both daytime and night fishing under current club rules, but designated daylight-only swims may apply where safety hazards have been identified. Anglers targeting larger carp or pike need suitable landing, unhooking and weighing equipment. Nets and fish-care equipment must be disinfected before use. Check current membership, guest-ticket, gate-access and fishing rules directly with IWFAC before travelling.
