About Angel Lakes
Angel Lakes at Birtley near Chester-le-Street has three mixed coarse waters: Bassetts, Bowes and Lookout. Bassetts is the smallest and is aimed at families and novices, with 14 pegs including two accessible positions. Bowes is the carp-dominant middle lake with 40 pegs, while Lookout has 44 bankside pegs and an accessible island used for pleasure or match fishing when available. Stocks include several carp varieties plus barbel, bream, chub, orfe, roach, rudd, tench and other silver fish. Day tickets must be bought and anglers signed in at reception before noon; season-ticket holders also have night-fishing options. Complete coarse-fishing beginners must undertake approved coaching before fishing independently. Reception sells tackle, bait and refreshments, and all fish are catch and return.
