About Sportfish Game Fishing Centre
Sportfish Game Fishing Centre occupies 45 acres of Berkshire countryside near Reading and combines trout fishing, casting tuition and a specialist shop. The main 12-acre Haywards Farm Lake is stocked with rainbow, brown, blue and spartic trout, averaging over 3lb with larger fish in the 5lb to 9lb range. When open, it offers take-fish and catch-and-release day tickets. Advance booking is strongly recommended because only 15 tickets are normally issued each day. Hobby Lake is a spring-fed clear-water trout lake available for private group booking with a lodge and casting platforms, while Kingfisher Pond is a smaller introductory facility. Fishing is fly-only, anglers need an Environment Agency rod licence, and catch-and-release hooks must be barbless or debarbed. Lessons and day courses suit different ability levels, and the store carries specialist game-fishing tackle. At the August 2026 check, the official site says the fishery is closed until further notice because hot weather has raised water temperatures, although tuition and the shop remain open Tuesday to Saturday. Call the centre or check the latest notice before travelling.
