About Rutland Water

Rutland Water is predominantly managed as a trout fly-fishing venue, with day and season tickets available for both bank and boat anglers. Brown and rainbow trout are the main quarry, and the reservoir also opens for seasonal predator fishing for pike, perch and zander. Facilities at the Normanton fishing lodge include permit sales, tackle supplies, boat hire and a cafe. Fishing courses and competitions are also hosted during the season.

Rutland Water venue rules

Trout may only be targeted using fly-fishing methods at Rutland Water. The published 2026 trout season runs from 14 March 2026 to 31 January 2027, with bank and boat permits available. Trout and predator fishing cannot be combined from the same boat, and every angler must follow the permit limits, fishery rules and boat-safety requirements.
