The elevated Powys water is known for a strain of wild carp traditionally said to descend from fish introduced by medieval monks. Heavy seasonal weed makes surface baits, close-range stalking and the clearer gravel margins particularly useful, although deeper water in the northern corner can remain open. Weed raking is permitted and often attracts feeding fish. Access and directions are provided through the Fishing Passport booking system because of the lake's isolated location.
