About Llyn Clywedog Trout Fishery

Llyn Clywedog Trout Fishery is a 615-acre upland reservoir near Llanidloes, operated by Llanidloes and District Angling Association. The club rears trout at its own farm and stocks the reservoir weekly, adding about 40,000 rainbow and brown trout over a season alongside overwintered fish. Full-day, evening and season fly-fishing permits are sold through the lodge, with separate hire available from a fleet of motor boats that includes a wheelchair-accessible boat. The published 2026 season runs from 12 March to 30 November. Anglers need the correct rod licence and venue permit and should book boats through the lodge. The elevated water remains comparatively cool in summer and is particularly noted for buzzer, beetle and other surface-fly sport.
