About Hampstead Heath Fishing Ponds
Hampstead Heath allows fishing on five designated waters: Highgate Men's Pond, Model Boating Pond, Hampstead No. 2 Pond, Viaduct Pond and Vale of Health Pond. Species include carp, bream, roach, rudd, tench, gudgeon, perch and pike. Anglers aged 13 and over must obtain a Hampstead Heath fishing permit and hold an Environment Agency rod licence. The closed period runs from 15 March through 15 June, with fishing reopening on 16 June. Up to three rods may be used, but barbed hooks, braided line, lures, bait boats, live bait, keepnets and carp sacks are prohibited. A suitable knotless landing net and fish-care equipment are required, and all fish must be returned promptly. An accessible fishing stand is provided at Model Boating Pond. Check the City of London page for current permit fees and complete guidelines.
