Clawford Lakes at Clawton near Holsworthy is a holiday resort with 17 privately owned fishing lakes reserved for staying guests. Waters range from traditional mixed pleasure and match-style fishing to carp waters, a beginner pool and private pod lakes. Stocks include carp, crucians, tench, bream, barbel, chub, roach, rudd and perch. Dragonfly holds carp to about 25lb, while several smaller waters suit families and less experienced anglers. Every angler needs a permit, available from the tackle shop or booked before the stay, with half-day, full-day and weekly options. An Environment Agency rod licence is also required. The tackle shop sells bait and essentials and offers tackle hire, and coaching is available from resident experts. Rules include no night fishing, no swimming or wading, adult supervision for juniors and taking litter away. Accommodation includes lake pods, floating lodges, apartments and holiday lodges, with a restaurant, pools, spa and shop elsewhere on the resort.
