Fairlands Valley Park offers fishing on the Main Lake in Stevenage, with angling activity managed by Welwyn Garden City Angling Club in partnership with Stevenage Borough Council. The lake is open throughout the year and is stocked with carp, chub, barbel, roach, rudd, tench and perch; the council highlights a largest named carp of approximately 35lb. Anglers aged 13 and over require a valid Environment Agency rod licence as well as the correct fishery ticket. Day and night sessions are pre-booked and pre-paid through the head bailiff, and 24-hour fishing must be arranged in advance. Fishing is permitted only from the West fishing beach and Southern fishing bank of the Main Lake. No fishing is allowed elsewhere on the Main Lake or on the Environment and Millennium lakes. Fishing between 15 March and 15 June inclusive is at the discretion of the council and angling club. A maximum of three rods may be used, barbless hooks and suitable fish-care equipment are required, and boats, livebaiting, artificial lures and unattended rods are prohibited. Fish must normally be returned unharmed, subject to the council's separate Environment Agency instruction concerning catfish. Visitors should confirm current ticket prices, available sessions and rules with the head bailiff before travelling.
