Visitor reviews and star ratings for fishing lakes

Anglers can now rate fishing venues and share their own experiences directly on Fishing Lakes UK lake pages.

Real visitor experiences

Helping anglers learn more before they visit

Fishing Lakes UK already brings together venue information, species, facilities, access details and official links. We have now added visitor reviews and star ratings to individual lake pages as another useful way to research a venue.

If you have fished a lake listed on the site, you can leave a rating and short review describing your own experience.

Other anglers can then use those reviews alongside the venue's official information when deciding whether a lake might suit their next session.

How it works

Rate a fishing lake from 1 to 5 stars

The review section is available directly on individual Fishing Lakes UK venue pages.

Choose a star rating

Give the venue an overall rating from one to five stars based on your own visit.

Share your experience

Add a short review covering the parts of your visit that could be useful to another angler.

Read other reviews

Approved visitor reviews appear on the lake page along with the venue's overall star rating.

Writing a useful review

What should you include?

The most useful reviews are based on a genuine visit and give other anglers a realistic idea of what they can expect.

You do not need to write an essay. A few helpful details about the fishing, venue and your overall experience can be much more useful than simply saying that somewhere was good or bad.

Useful things to mention

  • Which lake or part of the venue you fished
  • The type of fishing you were doing
  • Fish caught or activity you experienced
  • Condition of the swims and banks
  • Parking, toilets or other facilities
  • Staff or bailiff experience where relevant
  • Whether you would visit again

Keep it useful

Reviews should be fair and based on your own experience

Good reviews

  • Describe a genuine visit
  • Give useful details and context
  • Remain respectful when describing problems
  • Focus on the venue and fishing experience
  • Explain why you gave the rating you chose

Please avoid

  • Personal attacks or abusive language
  • Reviews for venues you have not visited
  • Advertising or promotional messages
  • Posting private personal information
  • Submitting the same review repeatedly

Ratings at a glance

Once a venue has approved visitor ratings, its average score can be shown on the lake page so anglers can quickly see how previous visitors have rated it.

Star ratings

Reviews add context to the venue information

A star rating is useful as a quick indication, but the written reviews provide the context behind the score.

Two anglers can visit the same venue looking for completely different things. One might be targeting specimen carp while another is looking for an easy day-ticket session with good facilities.

Reading the comments alongside the rating can therefore be more useful than relying on the number alone.

Moderation

Why reviews may not appear immediately

Reviews are checked before they are published.

This helps us reduce spam, duplicate submissions, advertising and content that is not useful to people researching a fishing venue.

We also use basic duplicate and abuse protection around review submissions. This is intended to keep ratings more useful rather than allowing the same visitor to repeatedly rate the same venue.

Moderation does not mean a review has to be positive. Constructive criticism and genuine negative experiences can still be useful to other anglers when they are written fairly and based on a real visit.

Fishing Lakes UK

Building a more useful fishing lake directory

Visitor reviews are another way we are improving the information available when researching fishing venues across the UK.

Official venue information remains important, but anglers who have actually visited a lake can often provide useful extra details about what a session there is really like.

As more reviews are added, we hope the ratings and comments will make it easier to discover new venues and choose somewhere that suits the type of fishing you are looking for.
